Iran Blames U.S. for Israeli Strikes, Warns of Consequences
"The direct responsibility of the United States for the actions of the Zionist regime is clear, and the consequences of escalating tensions will also fall on the United States," Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei told a news briefing cited by a state news agency.
Baqaei also leveled sharp criticism at the UN's nuclear watchdog, stating: "IAEA Director General (Rafael Grossi)'s approach to the Iran case is political, irresponsible."
Earlier Monday, an Israeli airstrike struck a petrochemical facility in southwestern Iran, causing partial damage to the industrial complex, according to Iranian officials. The strikes unfolded as air raid sirens wailed across multiple Israeli cities following fresh missile launches by Tehran — underscoring the rapidly deteriorating security environment across the region.
The current spiral of hostilities dates to late February, when Washington and Tel Aviv launched coordinated airstrikes against Iran, prompting Tehran to retaliate against Israel and regional nations hosting US military assets.
A temporary ceasefire reached on April 8 briefly interrupted the fighting, but subsequent negotiations collapsed under the weight of implementation disputes and mounting regional flashpoints.
