Celebrating the legacy and continued effects of MARFORCYBER, MARFORSPACE and MCIC

FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, Md. — Marine Corps Forces Space Command celebrated its 6th birthday Sept. 30, 2026, followed by Marine Corps Forces Cyberspace Command’s 17th and Marine Corps Information Command’s 4th birthdays Oct. 1, 2026. Together, the anniversaries highlight these Marine Corps’ commands as they evolve and closely integrate supporting the Joint Force and Fleet Marine Force.
MARFORCYBER was activated in 2009 as the Marine Corps service cyber component, establishing a dedicated command responsible for representing Marine Corps cyberspace capabilities within the joint force.
Seventeen years later, MARFORCYBER conducts full-spectrum cyberspace operations, including operating and defending the Marine Corps Enterprise Network, conducting defensive cyberspace operations within Joint Force and Marine Corps networks and, when directed, conducting offensive cyberspace operations.
The Marine Corps expanded its presence in another emerging warfighting domain with the establishment of MARFORSPACE in 2020 as the service component to U.S. Space Command.
Now six years old, MARFORSPACE provides operational support to the Fleet Marine Force as a distributed force integrated throughout the U.S. Space Command enterprise. The command provides Marines access to space capabilities and works to integrate space effects into operations across the force.
That integration can reach directly into traditional Marine Corps warfighting functions. Marines assigned to MARFORSPACE have worked to incorporate space effects into conventional fire-support doctrine, connecting capabilities in space with fires and maneuver.
As the Marine Corps expanded its capabilities across cyberspace, space and the information environment, it also identified a need to better integrate capabilities that had previously operated in separate functional areas.
MCIC was established in 2022 to help bring those capabilities together.
The command integrates, synchronizes and enables operations in the information environment in support of naval, joint and combined campaigning and the Fleet Marine Force. Today, MCIC brings together capabilities that include cyber, space, signals intelligence, electromagnetic spectrum operations and influence to deliver non-kinetic effects to the Joint Force and Fleet Marine Force.
That convergence has become central to the command’s approach. Rather than treating capabilities in cyberspace, space and the information environment as separate effects, the enterprise works to integrate them with traditional warfighting functions and provide commanders greater options in competition and conflict.
The relationship among the three commands continues to evolve.
As the commands move forward, Brig. Gen. Ahmed Williamson, commanding general of MARFORCYBER, MARFORSPACE and MCIC, has identified delivering and securing information advantage as the enterprise’s purpose. His vision emphasizes warfighting readiness, developing the people behind the mission, aligning the enterprise with CyberCommand and na and strengthening the integration of capabilities to meet operational requirements.
These commands’ birthdays signify years of evolution and a focused way forward. Each milestone reflects how the Marines, Sailors, civilians and partners of MARFORCYBER, MARFORSPACE and MCIC continue connecting capabilities across the commands to support the Joint Force and Fleet Marine Force.
