Bronze Star recognizes AFOSI Special Agent’s leadership while deployed
Kain served as the noncommissioned officer in charge of an AFOSI detachment supporting operations at an overseas air base. During his deployment, he led a team of special agents and support personnel helping safeguard deployed service members as well as critical warfighting assets and aircraft.
The ceremony brought together members of Team Moody, AFOSI leadership, community partners, family members and friends to recognize Kain’s accomplishments.
“Today, we have the privilege of recognizing Special Agent Corey Kain for exceptional service under combat conditions,” said Col. Stephen Olivares, commander of AFOSI 2nd Field Investigations Region.
Kain’s deployment coincided with ongoing operations, when the threat to U.S. forces in the region intensified. His team faced a rapidly changing operational environment that included one-way attack drones and ballistic missile attacks.
The citation accompanying Kain’s Bronze Star stated that his team supported multiple operations and encountered one-way attack drones and ballistic missile attacks during his deployment.
Kain was exposed to hostile action when enemy attack drones were directed toward the base. He responded to the base emergency operations center and key vantage points to provide real-time threat information, enabling security forces to respond to the attacks.
Kain’s team also safeguarded aircraft through multiple alarm incidents.
“Most importantly, it demanded people who could think clearly and act decisively under pressure,” Olivares said. “Special Agent Kain was one of those people.”
The operational environment required Kain and his team to adapt in real time. Olivares said they worked through continuity-of-operations concerns, and conducted protective equipment, bunker, communications and accountability drills to maintain readiness.
Their work supported the installation’s ability to generate airpower while providing commanders with timely counterintelligence information needed to make informed decisions.
For Kain, much of the deployment’s important work happened outside the spotlight.
Olivares described one of Kain’s memories of walking across the encampment at approximately 2 a.m., when much of the base was quiet. The moment reflected the less visible side of military service, including late shifts, assessments, reports and decisions that continue while others sleep.
“The mission cannot pause, and the threat does not keep business hours,” Olivares said.
Kain also emphasized the importance of relationships throughout his deployment, crediting his teammates, strategic partners and leaders for the success of the mission.
In his remarks following the presentation, Kain thanked Team Moody leadership, his AFOSI teammates, strategic partners and his family. He specifically recognized his father, Joseph Kain, a retired law enforcement professional and former Air Force security policeman, for serving as a mentor and role model throughout his life. Kain also credited the small team of agents he served with and the partnerships that enabled them to accomplish their mission.
“There’s just no way that we could have been nearly as successful as we were without our strategic partners stateside and overseas,” Kain said.
The Bronze Star recognizes service members who distinguish themselves through heroic or meritorious achievement or service in connection with military operations against an opposing armed force.
“I’m grateful to have the opportunity to learn and grow as a leader, to be part of an amazing team, and to feel true purpose and belonging in what you do,” Kain said.
Kain is scheduled to transition to an instructor position with an overseas deployment training program at the end of October. He will use the experience gained from leading through sustained threats, advising senior leaders, working with partners and adapting to emerging combat challenges to help prepare future Airmen for complex counterintelligence operations.
“Your Bronze Star Medal is a reflection of distinguished service under combat conditions,” Olivares said. “More importantly, it is a reflection of the trust placed in you and the way you honored that trust.”
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the Bronze Star Medal and recognition of Kain’s service by members of Team Moody, AFOSI and his family.
